Sam Kingery
Provisionally Licensed Therapist, MS, PLMHP
Sam is a provisionally licensed mental health practitioner. He graduated from The University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and completed his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bellevue University.
Sam provides a Person-Centered, Strengths-Based approach, and draws on elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy into his approach. The client needs that Sam tends to work with the most are relationship issues, men’s issues, self-esteem work, anxiety, depression, and working through trauma.
Sam’s approach to counseling is relaxed and collaborative and strongly adheres to the belief that the therapeutic process requires a strong bond between the client and counselor. Sam’s sociology background leads to a strong interest in understanding clients and the context of their actions and needs, an approach that leads to acceptance and empathy in the counseling office. Sam typically works with adult populations but also has experience with adolescent and elderly populations. He has worked with clients of varying genders, sexual orientations, religious affiliations, and cultures.
Outside of the office, Sam enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends. He enjoys building computers and playing games on them. Sam is a fan of professional football, even when the Houston Texans let him down. He also enjoys traveling to new places, especially national parks.
