Sam Kingery
Counseling Intern
Sam is a counseling intern through Bellevue University and has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology through the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Sam enjoys working with all clients, and has worked with clients of various ages, genders, sexual orientations, religious affiliations, and cultures, and has led a counseling group for men.
Sam has been providing a Person-Centered approach since he began his internship at Wellspring in March of 2024, and is focusing on incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy into his approach. The areas that Sam has the most experience at this time include relationship issues, men’s issues, working on self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and working through trauma.
Sam’s approach to counseling is relaxed and collaborative, and strongly adheres to the belief that the therapeutic process requires a strong bond between a client and counselor before anything else. Sam’s sociology experience leads to a strong interest in understanding clients and the contexts of their actions and needs, an approach that leads to acceptance, empathy, and safety.
Outside of the office, Sam enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He enjoys building computers and playing games on them. Sam is a fan of professional football, even when the Houston Texans let him down. While Sam’s interests tend to be indoors, he enjoys traveling to new places, especially national parks.
